FAQs

1. What is the Prevention Virtual Walk?

It’s a walk that you can do from anywhere around Australia! Join us for 6 weeks of training that will prepare you to complete a 10km walk on October 24th, 2021. We may not be walking side-by-side but we'll all be joining in the fun from wherever we are!

2. Do I need to be fit to take part in the Virtual Walk?

No! In fact, we encourage you to do the walk if you're getting back into exercise. We've designed a training plan for all fitness levels and fitness goals so that you can increase or decrease intensity as you desire. Always consult your doctor before taking on a new exercise regime.

3. How do I track the distance of my walk?

You can use free apps like Map My Run, Google Maps or Fit Bit to plan and track your walks. Once you sign up, we'll share all of these in more detail.

4. What if I sign-up halfway through?

Once you sign up, you'll have access to all the previous weeks of the training plan. Simply start at week one and take note of our recommendations to ramp up the intensity if you feel ready for it.

5. Do I need to wear a facemask while walking?

As Covid-19 is an ongoing situation, we always recommend you look to your state government for guidance on the best practice for you. Ensure you maintain the appropriate social distance and wear a mask if walking alongside or near people.

6. I’m in a lockdown, can I still get involved?

Yes, absolutely. Use your allowed time to exercise to do your training (please check the requirements based on your state government’s health advice). We've also developed our plans so that you can do the strength sessions indoors if need be. As for the big day, feel free to split your walk over two days or smash out the 10kms in under an hour (we believe in you!).

7. What date is the virtual walk?

Sunday, October 24th, 2021 is the official day of the Prevention Australia Virtual Walk.

8. What date are the training plans available?

Each weekly meal and exercise plan will be emailed to you on the Friday beforehand so you have time to plan and shop for ingredients over the weekend. Week One of the training program starts on Monday, September 13 so you will be sent your plan on Friday September 10th.

9. Do I have to complete the training plans and follow the meal plan?

No, these plans are optional and it’s up to you to choose whether you want to undertake them. If you just want to join us on October 24th for the big walk, then that's fine too!

10. When will I receive my backpack and sunscreen tube?

All backpacks and sunscreens will be despatched within 7 days of you signing up. Please allow extra time for postage due to Covid Australia Post delays.
