1 BODY CONFIDENCE IS A STATE OF MIND.
I walk, I dance, I swim… and as a result, I’m shameless! It’s not about what your body looks like on the outside; it’s about how you wear it.
2 GROWING UP WITH A LITTLE FREEDOM CAN SET YOU UP FOR SUCCESS
Being raised like a free-range chicken was the best start-up I could’ve had. I began touring at just 16, and by 20 had been in bands, on the music charts and travelling.
3 SPEND A LITTLE ON THE HEALTHY STUFF
My grandmother told me that a little of what you fancy does you good. She was a naturopath, who, at all of 134cm, was quite persuasive and taught us the value of buying organic and eating together as a family.
4 LET YOUR KIDS BE INDEPENDENT
I believe being a parent means deferring your needs to the evolution of the child. We don’t raise children to be kept and pandered like puppies. You have to realise that they’re
their own person and let them be free.
5 MUSIC STIRS SOMETHING WITHIN.
It’s like sonic therapy – your body goes into this state of complete joy or sadness, as if releasing a pressure point. All I have to do is sit and listen to a church choir and as soon as they start singing together, the tears just roll down my face.
6 GOOD HEALTH IS ABOUT TAKING OWNERSHIP
The way you respond to the world depends on staying nimble, so even if I’m too old to do TikToks, I will bloody do them anyway!
7 SET THE BAR HIGH FOR YOUR LIFE
For me, living is performing to 18,000 people every night. When the arena for the musical Jesus Christ Superstar began to feel as familiar as the local pub, you really knew you were cooking with gas!
8 MARRIAGE SHOULD BE LIKE A MIRROR
Every day, I see myself in the eyes of my husband [film director Lee Rogers], and after nearly 30 years we can look at each other and see that we’re measuring up well.
9 KINDNESS COUNTS
If I could take back anything, it’d be the first boy I fell in love with. He wasn’t kind. Through kindness, you learn where it pays off.
10 IN THE END, IT’S IMPORTANT TO ASK YOURSELF: Did I say everything I wanted to say?
Do all the things I wanted to do? Was I honest when I had the opportunity to be? I want to leave knowing I arrived at a happy place within.
