On a very special day of the year—February 22, 2022 (2/22/22)—Drew Barrymore turned 47 and she celebrated in every way possible, starting with a glowing fresh-faced Instagram selfie.
“2 22 22 this is 47!” she captioned the post. With her bathroom behind her, the actress gave a sultry closed-mouth smile, her seemingly makeup-less eyes beaming with confidence. Her hair appeared freshly washed, slightly unkempt, and frizzy. And she looked gorgeous.
The birthday wishes and compliments poured in. “DREW YOU ARE SO STUNNING!!!!!!!!!!” one person commented. “Happy Birthday, you Magical Creature!!! I LOVE YOU! always have, always will,” Reese Witherspoon wrote. “Birthday on a mirror day?! How epic!!! ” another added.

Working on your birthday may sound like a drag, but for Barrymore, it was a blast. She hosted her talkshow The Drew Barrymore Show, where basically every segment centered around her special day. She gave audience members gifts, made sprinkle-filled cakes topped with her favorite flower (daisies), and was moved to tears when the show’s production team surprised her with a birthday visit from none other than The Go-Go’s.
“I’m supposed to read the prompter,” Barrymore said, introducing the mystery segment. “It’s a surprise guest. I have no idea who it is. I don’t even know what I’m saying right now.” Then the band’s hit song “We Got The Beat” started playing, and Belinda Carlisle, Jane Wiedlin, Charlotte Caffey, Gina Schock, and Kathy Valentine appeared on-screen via video chat.
Barrymore immediately broke down in tears, barely able to introduce the band. “I know I wouldn’t be the same person if you weren’t who you were,” she said through sniffles. “You just gave us all permission to dream and think big and be proud.”
And that she did—Barrymore is a mom of two and a widely successful entrepreneur with a booming beauty brand, Flower Beauty, an acclaimed actress, a talkshow host, and more. And that’s why she wouldn’t trade where she is—or her age—for anything.
During an April Entertainment Tonight segment called “Dear Drew,” the Scream star said she’d never go back to a younger age, even if she could. “I know that's a boring answer, but it’s true. I think today is my best day so far,” she said. “I am so proud of it because I’m so much calmer, wiser, smarter… and I’m still an idiot, and still have so much to learn.”
She added that, despite what societal standards say, beauty does comes with age. “We should look inside ourselves rather than looking out to these impossible standards that have made many a woman crazy,” she urged. “I just think the more confident you are, the more beautiful you are, at any age.”
Wise words from a wise woman. Happy birthday, Drew!
