As TV presenter Sonia Kruger prepares to turn 51, she couldn’t be busier or more excited. And that’s a truly great thing.

“Being 50 now is different to being 50 a few years ago,” she admits in the latest issue of Prevention magazine.

“If we think back to our parents’ era, for them that was the time to start winding down. I think now people are hitting their straps professionally and personally; it’s almost like life does start again.”

“It’s the time when we’re finally in a position where we have some experience and independence of confidence.”

And like a growing number of smart, savvy 50+ women, the host of The Voice definitely showed no signs of slowing down as she approached a brand new decade.

“I knew there would be questions, and I never wanted to misrepresent myself to the public,” she explains.

“I wanted to be really clear about the process I went through. Not long ago IVF was something that was whispered about and that’s changed a lot now, and I think the perception of egg donors, sperm donors and what it takes to make a family will too.”

Over the past year, Sonia said goodbye to her beloved dad, who passed away in 2015. And Kruger is incredibly grateful for the ways her daughter has changed her life.

“Having a baby really does change your whole world, in ways you don’t even really expect. I probably appreciate every day more now,” she says.

“In the past I was probably looking at the future and where I wanted to be, and now it’s probably more of a day-to-day proposition. Maggie is just hilarious. Small children give you such great joy.”
