Let’s get to the point, the stiletto point, that is: 64 per cent of women admit to buying shoes for style over comfort according to the recent Healthy Feet Survey. We know how you feel. But the survey also showed one in three of us wake up several mornings a week with foot pain.
Hmmm. Are you joining the dots? The flat truth is 90 per cent of women admit they experience pain within an hour of wearing high heels according to the Australian Podiatry Association.
“The time to stop wearing heels is when they are causing you pain in your back, hip, knee, ankle or feet,” says Georgina Jamieson, founder of MediPedi Nail Spa in Adelaide.
So does that mean giving up your favourite party heels? “Try and stick to the 80/20 rule, where 80 per cent of the time you wear comfortable shoes, and keep your favourite stilettos for special events,” advises Georgina.
The good news? Kitten heels are back! Heels of one and a half to two centimetres can actually improve your posture.
