Two Aussie destinations the world can't wait to explore

TripAdvisor has revealed its ‘Top 10 Emerging Destinations in the World’ and two Aussie locations have made the list that are perfect for travellers seeking a holiday filled with natural highs.

Shoalhaven and Mudgee, both in NSW, were declared among the destinations “travellers were dreaming of while they were stuck at home all year — and where they may go next”.

TripAdvisor’s Emerging Destinations list showcases the spots with the greatest year-over-year increase in "saves" on Tripadvisor around the world.

Different from the other categories, which highlight where travellers have already visited, the Emerging list identifies where they want to visit.

"Alongside the latest vaccine developments, pent-up demand is prompting the world to think more about travel in 2021," said Christine Maguire, vice president and general manager, global media business at Tripadvisor. "But one result of the pandemic may be the destinations they're interested in. In fact, a recent survey revealed that 74% of travellers will spend more time selecting a destination when planning their next trip. If you're like me and already imagining your first post-vaccine vacation, this list of travellers' favourite destinations can serve as your inspiration."

Outdoor adventures in Shoalhaven

Coming in at number eight, Shoalhaven “might not be the first place to come to mind when thinking of Australia—but it should be if you enjoy surfing sparkling turquoise waters, immersing yourself in the verdant trails and gorges of Ben’s Walk, and exploring caverns and sea cliffs through Gosangs Tunnel,” TripAdvisor said.

“Looking for something a bit more restful? Enjoy stunning views (particularly at sunset) from the Point Perpendicular Lighthouse before feasting on local treats at one of the coastal region’s 20 vineyards.”

It's also home to Hyam's Beach, a long beach with spectacular white sand located in Jervis Bay (pictured main).

Country magic in Mudgee

“Mudgee is about to become your favourite holiday destination,” TripAdvisor said.

“Explore the heritage of this NSW town through expertly restored Gold Rush-era buildings and an extensive selection of artifacts at the Gulgong Pioneers Museum. Nature enthusiasts will love the moss-covered rocks and oversized ferns in Ferntree Gully, while would-be artists will want to check out the bold canvases and handmade ceramics by local artisans. Prefer exploring by bike? This region offers everything from gentle rides through the countryside to dirt back roads made for mountain biking.”
