The 2025 Prevention Australia World Menopause Day lunch brought together almost 300 women for an afternoon of honest conversations, expert advice and a healthy dose of laughter. Led by editor Zoe Meunier and hosted by TV presenter Shelley Craft, the event shone a light on the many ways women can feel informed, confident and empowered through midlife.

Here are five key takeaways from our inspiring panel of experts.

Hormones don’t have to be a mystery

Menopause specialists Dr Ceri Cashell and Dr Gabrielle Staniforth reminded us that understanding our hormones is the first step to managing symptoms. They explained how hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can be safe and effective for many women, but that every treatment should be tailored to the individual. The message? There’s no one-size-fits-all approach — talk to a knowledgeable practitioner about what’s right for you.

What you eat really does matter

Accredited practising dietitian Jaime Rose Chambers spoke about the importance of nourishing your body through menopause and beyond. She encouraged women to focus on balanced meals rich in protein, fibre and whole foods to maintain muscle, bone health and energy. Forget fad diets – it’s about consistency and care, not restriction.

Self-care isn’t selfish

Clinical psychologist Leanne Mulheron highlighted how emotional wellbeing is just as vital as physical health. Stress, sleep and self-criticism can all worsen menopausal symptoms, so taking time for yourself is essential, not indulgent. Whether it’s meditation, movement or simply saying no more often, self-care builds resilience for the long haul.

Your skin tells a story — support it

Skincare expert Vanessa Gray Lyndon shared that skin changes during menopause aren’t something to fear. With the right support – hydration, dermal massage, and barrier-boosting ingredients – your skin can look and feel its best. Ageing gracefully, she said, is about supporting your skin’s health rather than chasing youth.

Ageing is worth celebrating

Our MC Shelley Craft brought warmth and humour to the day, reflecting on her own experiences of navigating midlife in all its chaotic glory. Her message was one we can all take home: getting older isn’t something to hide from – it’s an opportunity to embrace wisdom, strength and self-assurance.

It was an afternoon filled with learning, laughter and connection – a reminder that menopause is not the end of vitality, but the beginning of a new, empowered chapter.
