The former model, now 52 and with a degree in Early Childhood, has written her first book, Queen Menopause. Here, she shares what she has learnt about life.

1. I ALWAYS SAY “I hear you”, especially when someone is sharing vulnerable information. And it’s old fashioned, but “thank you” is a beautiful word as well.

2. WHEN IN DOUBT, go through all the possibilities and see which one feels right in your body. Then make your decision.

3. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING I DO FOR MY APPEARANCE IS get some sleep. Exercise and laughing is great, too.

4. BEING KIND IS the most important beauty tonic that exists. It’s my favourite word, and we need more kindness in the world.

5. MY FAMILY THINK I talk a lot about menopause! [Alison is married to actor Cameron Daddo and they have three children.]

6. WHEN PEOPLE RECOGNISE ME, THEY SAY, “I had you on my wall when I was in high school!” [Alison was a regular cover girl on Dolly magazine in the early 1990s.]

7. CONFIDENCE IS something I’m still working on.

8. SURROUND YOURSELF with people who love, support and listen to you.

9. WHEN I WAKE UP, I wish I could go back to sleep again. But, having said that, I do love getting up with the sun and having a cup of tea in silence.

10. THE HABIT I’VE KEPT FROM MY MODELLING DAYS IS never ever sleeping in my make-up.

11. MENOPAUSE IS an intermission for a great second half. It can be such an excellent beginning to a better you!
