When Jane Fonda and Sharon Osborne embraced their natural hair by going grey, plenty of women were inspired to follow suit. Last week, Groundhog Day actress Andie MacDowell proudly debuted her “silver fox” transformation on The Drew Barrymore Show, and to echo her daughters, she looks totally badass.

Like many who’ve cut back on salon visits and other aspects of their beauty routines over the last year, MacDowell’s new look is a product of quarantine.

“What happened was, I wasn’t colouring my hair, and it was half-coloured back here,” she told Barrymore, touching the back of her head. “You could see my roots, and my daughters kept telling me that I looked badass. And [that] really appealed to me. So I went for it, and I am enjoying it.”

The salt-and-pepper dimension really does elevate the star’s naturally curly texture. Previously, she preferred a dark brown colour. “I don’t know what’s gonna happen in five years,” she noted. “I might colour my hair again, but I’m enjoying it right now.”

Just know, that if you *happen* to run into MacDowell on the street and want to compliment her locks, don’t dare use “grey” to describe them.

“I always correct people: ‘It’s not grey, it’s silver,’” she said. She also wants to be clear that she doesn’t categorize this new embrace as “letting herself go.” “I don’t think of it that way,” she added.

In fact, she feels empowered by what some might deem an act of radical self-acceptance, and has already noticed that she carries herself a bit differently when she goes out.

“I went to the grocery store, and I saw a man there, a ‘silver fox’ guy,” she said. “I immediately just put my shoulders back, and I was like, ‘And so am I,’ you know? We both just shot a look to each other,” she told Barrymore and Matthews. “It’s like, I’m a silver fox. That’s where I am right now.”

MacDowell hasn’t shared much of her new hue online, other than a quick Instagram video in November. Still, followers showered her with love for the look. “Your hair is AMAZING! Thank you for embracing your true colour. I’m 32 and have been embracing my grey for a few years now,” one commenter wrote. “LOVE your silvers!!!” another added. “Your hair has always been beautiful and now it’s just stunning!” another wrote.

We have to agree!
