Have you ever wanted to make a big change? You know, the kind that would transform your life for the better, but you can’t seem to work out why you can’t stick to it? Whether you want a healthier and more active lifestyle, deeper relationships, or a more fulfilling career, Layne Beachley says it comes down to unlocking your personal truth.
The seven-time world champion surfer should know. As impressive as Layne’s CV reads (she claimed her last world title back in 2006 but still holds three Guinness Book of World Records), she’s also experienced bouts of depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, suicidality, and career-threatening injuries. She had to learn to dig deep and discover her intrinsic motivations in order to thrive.

It’s a lesson she wants to share with as many people as possible. That’s why she’s launched Awake Academy, an online platform offering transformational courses, supported by psychologists on My Mirror. The first course is called Own Your Truth.
“Own Your Truth was created to help people to develop a deeper understanding of themselves, to strengthen their sense of self,” explains Layne. “This helps build resilience and creates a sense of certainty, something that is really lacking right now for many of us as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic and all of the upheaval that goes along with it.
“I like to think of each individual’s ‘truth’ as their internal GPS – it helps to guide us through the good times and the bad. Own Your Truth will help people unlock that internal GPS.”
But don’t expect it to be easy.
“It’s not your usual online self-help course,” the 48-year-old says. “It’s raw. It’s real. It can be confronting and will probably make you feel uncomfortable. But that’s the whole point. We have to move out of our comfort zones if we want to affect real change. Own Your Truth is designed to help people wake up, own their sh*t, and design a life they truly love.”
