The Aussie city ranked second healthiest in the world

Sydney has been ranked as the second healthiest in the world according to a new UK report.

The Healthy Lifestyle Cities Report 2021 measured the lifestyle of 44 global destinations, taking into account average hours worked per week, happiness levels and outdoor activities.

It also took into account the cost of a bottle of water (city), obesity levels of the country, life expectancy (country), pollution index score (city), average annual hours worked, happiness levels (country), outdoor activities (city), number of takeaway restaurants (city) and costs of a monthly gym membership (city).

Each metric was awarded a weighted score and combined to give each city a total score out of 100.

Sydney boasts 2636 hours of sunshine per year and 1712 hours worked on average per year, which is almost 33 hours per week. The city has happiness levels of 7.22/10, 406 outdoor activities, pollution levels of 26.86, and a life expectancy of 82.1.

Amsterdam topped the list, based on it having more than 400 outdoor activities, the Netherlands being ranked the fifth happiest country in the world, as well as being the sixth best country in Europe for obesity levels at 20.4%.

Melbourne came in at No.11, with 2363 hours of sunshine and 243 outdoor activities.

The world’s most expensive cities for gym membership

However, both Australian cities were way down the list when it came to the most affordable monthly gym membership. Sydney came in at around $75, while Melbourne was around $66.

The cost in Amsterdam is around $63 a month. The cheapest gym membership on the list was found in Sao Paolo at $29, with the most expensive being Zurich, where inhabitants pay an eye-watering $131.50 a month.
