If you’re keen to turn your sex dreams into reality, you’re in the right place. Everyone deserves to find pleasure—and with the best sex positions for women, you can help ensure that you (or your partner) feel just that. Since every body is different, it may take some trial and error to figure out your favourites, but these expert-approved moves are a great place to start.

Exploring these kinds of positions matters because “certain positions are better suited to female pleasure as they enable direct or indirect stimulation of key erogenous zones like the clitoris or G-spot,” explains certified sex therapist Aliyah Moore. “Women often prefer positions that provide such stimulation to enhance their pleasure.”

Along with experimenting with new sex positions, there are other ways to boost female pleasure in the bedroom. Moore recommends using your hands, fingers, and mouth to explore what feels good, as well as incorporating sex toys like vibrators or dildos. “When it comes to enhancing pleasure and achieving orgasm during sex, it’s all about experimentation and exploring different forms of stimulation,” she says.

So, if you’re ready to mix things up in the bedroom, grab your partner and give these sexpert-approved positions a go.

1. Missionary with a pillow

Whoever said missionary was dull clearly never tried this variation recommended by Moore. Before you begin, simply place a pillow under the woman’s hips to elevate them slightly, Moore says.

This small adjustment allows for deeper penetration and greater clitoral stimulation. “The added support and elevation can intensify sensations and increase pleasure,” she explains.

2. Cowgirl

Time to take the reins. The cowgirl position encourages friction against the clitoris, which is often essential for achieving orgasm. “When riding in this position, you can control the pace, depth, and angle of penetration, which can help you find what feels best,” says LGBTQ sexologist Joy Berkheimer.

To try it, one partner lies on their back with legs extended, while the other partner straddles them, facing their head. The partner on top can then insert their partner’s penis or a sex toy into the vagina.

3. Reverse Cowgirl

This spin on the woman-on-top position offers similar perks to regular cowgirl—like control and clitoral stimulation—with a fresh perspective. Set up the same way, but this time the partner on top faces their partner’s feet instead of their head.

Berkheimer says reverse cowgirl is incredibly versatile and suggests a few ways to play with it:

  • Lean forward and rest your weight on your hands while moving your hips up and down.

  • Stay upright and balance on your knees, grinding your hips back and forth.

  • Try leaning back, supported by your feet and hands stretched behind you, then move in a way that feels good—whether it’s up and down or side to side.

4. The lotus

This one’s all about connection. The lotus position “allows for intimate eye contact, deep penetration, and the opportunity for the woman to control the rhythm and depth of thrusting,” Moore explains. “The close physical connection and clitoral stimulation can enhance pleasure.”

To get into this position, both partners face each other. The penetrating partner sits cross-legged while the other straddles their lap, wrapping her legs around their waist.

5. Doggy style

Both Moore and Berkheimer recommend the classic doggy-style position. It involves the woman on all fours while the partner penetrates from behind. This versatile setup allows for vaginal or anal penetration using a penis, strap-on, finger or toy, Berkheimer notes.

“This position allows for deeper penetration and provides an opportunity to stimulate the G-spot,” Moore adds. “The angle can create intense sensations and the hands are free to explore the clitoris or other erogenous zones.”

6. Queening

Keen for pleasure without penetration? Queening offers intense oral stimulation and a strong sense of control. “This position gives direct stimulation to the clitoris and several other erogenous zones at the same time,” says Berkheimer.

To try it, the receiving partner lies flat on their back while the woman places her legs around their shoulders and positions her vulva over their mouth. She can hover or sit while using the wall or her partner’s head for support. Bonus: the partner’s hands are free to explore the thighs, breasts, stomach or bum while delivering oral sex.

7. Spooning

You and your partner might spoon while watching TV or winding down for the night, but if you haven’t tried this position in the bedroom—you’re missing out. “This position offers intimacy and allows for deep penetration while creating a sense of comfort and relaxation,” says Moore. “The woman can adjust the pressure and angle by repositioning her legs.”

Both partners lie on their sides, with the penetrating partner behind. From there, the partner behind performs gentle thrusting movements and can also reach around to stimulate the clitoris or breasts for extra pleasure, Moore adds.

8. Butterfly

This spin on missionary adds a few simple tweaks that make a big difference. Moore says the butterfly position allows for deep penetration and is ideal for both cervical and clitoral stimulation. “The angle of entry and pressure against the pubic bone can really elevate sensation,” she notes.

To try it, the woman lies on her back with her hips positioned at the edge of a bed or table. The penetrating partner stands at the end, facing her and enters from a standing position between her legs.
